Xiaomi EV Unveils SkyNomad, an Intelligent, Reconfigurable, Large-Space SUV Series

Xiaomi will hold a Sky Nomad technology launch event at 7 pm Beijing Time on Thursday, July 30, where two range-extended sport utility vehicles (SUVs) will officially debut.

The models to be presented are the N90 Max and the N70 Max, according to a teaser posted by Xiaomi Sky Nomad on Chinese social media on Monday. The former is positioned as a flagship seven-seat extended-range SUV, while the latter is a large five-seat all-wheel-drive extended-range SUV.

The centerpiece of the event is the Xiaomi Kunlun technology architecture, which consists of three parts: the Xiaomi Kunlun platform, Xiaomi Kunlun super range extension and Xiaomi Kunlun full-domain safety.

This marks the first time Xiaomi has expanded its lineup from battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).

Sky Nomad is a second model series running in parallel with the existing SU7 and YU7 lineups, targeting the intelligent, transformable large-space SUV market.

Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun has said the SU7/YU7 series are cars for drivers, while Sky Nomad, developed over three and a half years, aims to create a living space.

When parked, the interior can switch between a studio, a cafe, a lounge and a playground, according to information previously released by Sky Nomad.

The Kunlun architecture has been built from the ground up since early 2023, featuring a completely flat floor and long seat rails, with rotating first-row seats.

Xiaomi has previously disclosed that the Sky Nomad series has a maximum battery capacity of 76 kWh, with up to 505 kilometers of all-electric range under the CLTC and up to 380 km under the WLTC. Its lowest fuel consumption with a depleted battery is 5.7 liters per 100 km.

The series uses a 1.5-liter engine produced by Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine as its range extender, with maximum net power of 112 kW, according to a filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) earlier this month.

The N90 Max is 5,285 mm long with a 3,080 mm wheelbase, and uses a dual-motor setup rated at 210 kW and 100 kW, paired with a ternary lithium battery from CALB (HKEX: 3931). The filing also included an N90 Max camping version with a pop-up roof.

The N70 series measures 4,960 mm in length with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, and all versions are five-seaters.

To reduce reliability risks in its first range-extended models, Xiaomi has conducted extensive road testing. As of June 30, the series had accumulated 626 days of testing across two winters and two summers, deploying 566 test vehicles and covering 4.28 million km of real-world driving.

The mid to large-size and large family SUV market targeted by Sky Nomad is the most competitive segment for range extenders in China.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) and Huawei-backed Aito have already built strong recognition there, accounting for seven of the 10 best-selling range-extended SUVs in China in 2025.

The new series is a key part of Xiaomi's 2026 expansion plans. The company has set a full-year delivery target of 550,000 vehicles, up about 34% from roughly 410,000 in 2025.

Xiaomi EV delivered 185,055 vehicles in the first half of this year, or about 34% of its annual target. To reach that goal, it needs to average about 60,000 deliveries a month in the second half, far above current levels.

The Sky Nomad N90 is expected to appear at the Chengdu Auto Show opening on August 21, which would be the series' first appearance at a major Auto Show.
